Mihály Gácsi

Mihály Gácsi (1926–1987)

Painter and graphic artist, winner of the Munkácsy Mihály Prize. He studied at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts, where his teachers were Endre Domanovszky, Gyula Hincz, and Károly Koffán. Between 1956 and 1974, he worked at the Szolnok Artists' Colony, then, after a brief stay in Hódmezővásárhely, he lived and worked in Zalaegerszeg from 1976 until his death. His early caricature-like, anecdotal, self-ironic works were later replaced by apocalyptic visions and works expressing concern for the fate of humanity.
